Inmigreat follows your USCIS and immigration court (EOIR) case and alerts you when it changes.
USCIS charges a fee for almost every form, and the amount depends on how you file (online or on paper) and on your category. The official table is Form G-1055, Fee Schedule. This guide summarizes the 10/16/26 edition, current as of October 19, 2026, for the most searched forms.
What changed in October 2026
USCIS published the 10/16/26 edition of Form G-1055 on October 16, 2026. It includes the fiscal year 2027 H.R. 1 (Public Law 119-21) fees for Forms I-131, I-589, I-765, I-821 and I-941. Those fees are adjusted for inflation every year: Federal Register notice 2026-20187 (October 1, 2026) sets the fiscal year 2027 amounts, effective October 16, 2026.
If you send a request postmarked on or after October 16, 2026 without the correct fee, USCIS rejects it (Form G-1055, edition 10/16/26).

The H.R. 1 fees
H.R. 1 (Public Law 119-21) created new immigration fees that are added to the regular USCIS fee. Per Form G-1055:
- They are paid separately, at the same time as the filing fee.
- They cannot be waived. You may request a waiver of the USCIS fee if eligible, but not of the H.R. 1 fee.
- They are adjusted every year for inflation. For fiscal year 2027, notice FR 2026-20187 raised, among others, the initial asylum, parole and TPS EAD fee to $570 and the annual asylum fee to $105.
USCIS also says that since February 5, 2026 it does not collect certain H.R. 1 fees (such as the asylum fee and the parole EAD fee) from Ms. L. v. ICE settlement class members and their qualifying family members, under a court order.
If your asylum application has been pending for a year or more, read how to pay the annual asylum fee to USCIS or the immigration court.
How to pay
Per the G-1055 page:
- By mail: credit, debit or prepaid card (Form G-1450) or a U.S. bank account (Form G-1650). If you qualify for an exemption from electronic payment, send Form G-1651 with your payment.
- Online: USCIS still accepts Pay.gov payments for requests filed online.
- At a USCIS office: through pay.gov by card or bank transfer (G-1650). Never cash.
If the fee is wrong, USCIS rejects the request. Check the table the day you mail your package and, after filing, follow your case with the meaning of each status.
Background: the 2024 fee rule
Before H.R. 1, USCIS published its fee rule in the Federal Register on January 31, 2024 (document 2024-01427), effective April 1, 2024. The H.R. 1 fees were implemented later, in July 2025, and are adjusted every fiscal year (FR 2026-20187).
When do these fees apply?
USCIS published the 10/16/26 edition of Form G-1055 on October 16, 2026. According to USCIS, any request postmarked on or after October 16, 2026 must include the new fees, or it will be rejected.
Is filing online cheaper?
For several forms, yes. Per Form G-1055, Form I-130 costs $675 on paper and $625 online, and Form N-400 costs $760 on paper and $710 online. Not every form or category can be filed online.
Can I request a fee waiver?
Some filers may request one with Form I-912 for certain forms. Fees required by Public Law 119-21 (H.R. 1) cannot be waived, although you may still request a waiver of the USCIS filing fee if you are eligible.
How much is the work permit for asylum applicants?
Per Form G-1055, an initial (c)(8) EAD for an asylum applicant with a pending Form I-589 (not under the special ABC procedures) has a $0 filing fee plus a $570 H.R. 1 fee. A (c)(8) renewal costs $520 on paper or $470 online, plus $275.
How do I pay for a mailed application?
USCIS says you can pay by credit, debit or prepaid card with Form G-1450, or from a U.S. bank account with Form G-1650. Cash is never accepted at a USCIS office.
